They've been producing it since 1987, the original was a 553cc enduro version and the first road version of it was in the Duke 620 in 1994. The engine in the Duke 690, SMC and EXC is still the lc4. When ktm acquired husqvarna they began using the lc4 because the 701 is just a slightly different paint job on the 690smc.
